Seminar GEOTROPIK: The Truth Behind Road Failures under Tropical Conditions is a comprehensive initiative organized by the Tropical Geoengineering Centre (GEOTROPIK), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, with a focused emphasis on pavement engineering issues affecting road infrastructure in tropical environments. The seminar highlights common road problems such as pavement deterioration, rutting, cracking, stripping, potholes, and premature failure caused by factors including heavy rainfall, moisture infiltration, high temperatures, and weak subgrade conditions. Through a geotechnical forensics approach, the seminar explores the scientific investigation and technical analysis of these failures to understand their root causes and performance behaviour under tropical conditions. It integrates fundamental pavement engineering theories with practical field and laboratory methods such as condition assessment, material testing, and performance evaluation, while bringing together academic experts and industry practitioners to share real case studies, extract key lessons, and propose effective maintenance and rehabilitation strategies, ultimately enhancing the durability, performance, and resilience of road pavements in tropical regions.
