On 28th April 2025, a delegation from Walailak University (WU), Thailand, recently visited Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to explore potential academic and research collaborations. The visit focused on key areas such as student mobility, joint research initiatives, academic staff exchange, co-supervision of graduate students, and joint grant applications.
Both institutions expressed strong interest in developing student mobility programs, allowing students to engage in exchange programs, internships, and collaborative academic projects. These initiatives aim to enrich students’ global perspectives and provide them with diverse educational opportunities. Discussions also centered around joint research collaborations in areas such as construction materials, geotechnical disaster risk management and environment. Both universities agreed on the importance of pooling resources and expertise to tackle global challenges through collaborative research and publications.
Additionally, the visit highlighted the potential for academic staff exchanges to promote knowledge-sharing and professional development between faculty members. Both universities also explored opportunities for co-supervising graduate students, allowing students to benefit from a broader range of academic expertise and global networks. The discussions also included the possibility of applying for joint research grants, which would enable both institutions to secure funding for collaborative projects in cutting-edge fields. Both universities are committed to fostering academic excellence and innovation, and they look forward to building a strong and enduring relationship that will benefit students, faculty, and research outcomes at both institutions.
