The Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM (FKA), led by Prof. Ir Dr Ahmad Safuan A Rashid (Deputy Dean – Research, Innovation and Development), together with Prof. Ir Dr Azman Kassim, Assoc Prof. Dr. Mariyana Aida Ab Kadir, Ir Dr. Nor Eliza Alias, Dr. Norafida Jusoh, Dr. Radzuan Sa’ari, Dr. Erwan Hafizi Kasiman, Dr. Ahmad Razali Yusoff, Dr. Mohamad Hasif Osman, Dr. Kasbi Basri, and Dr. Afiqah Ismail, had the wonderful opportunity to join forces with National Water of Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) and UiTM (Johor branch) in an academic visit to the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), Japan.
The program began with a warm welcome by Dr. Matsuura, followed by an insightful sharing on NIED’s latest research. The team also toured impressive facilities, including radar systems, the world’s largest rainfall simulator for slope and landslide studies, and an upcoming wind engineering project. In the evening, Dr. Afiqah moderated a vibrant parallel session on geotechnical engineering, hydrology, earthquakes, and coastal erosion, with contributions from NiED, UTM, NAHRIM, and UiTM.
