Curriculum Structure
The course is offered in full-time mode. The assessment is based on research reports, Master of Philosophy thesis and oral presentations.

Award requirements:
To graduate, students should:
- Obtained the total Credits for Graduation as determined by the curriculum of the program with academic standing of Good Pass (KB).
- Attend compulsory courses (University’s General Elective Course and Research Methodology Course)
- Complete and pass the Doctor of Philosophy thesis and viva (oral presentation).
- Fulfil the publication requirements as follows:
- Published at least (1) publication from journal article, conference proceeding or book chapter.
Entry Requirements
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- General University Requirements:
Must possess a minimum qualification of:
- a) A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent; or
- b) A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 but not meeting the 2.75 CGPA requirement, may be accepted subject to a rigorous internal assessment; or
- c) Candidates without relevant qualifications or work experience in a related field must undergo prerequisite courses as determined by the Faculty/School. If the candidate has completed related prerequisite courses through:
- Micro-credentials; or
- MOOCs; or
iii. Elective courses during Bachelor’s or Master’s studies,proof of the results of these courses can be submitted to UTM for registration purposes.
- English Language Requirements (for international students):
International students who wish to pursue postgraduate programs at UTM must meet the following English language proficiency requirements:
- a) IELTS Band 6.0 and above; or
- b) TOEFL iBT score of 60 and above; or
- c) Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) with a score of B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE), Linguaskill with a score of 169 and above; or
- d) PTE Academic with a score of 59 and above; or
- e) Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Band 4 and above; or
- f) ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) with Level 108 and above; or
- g) Any examination aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with a minimum score of B2.
Exemptions from the English language requirement may be granted to international students from countries where English is the official medium of instruction or to international students who hold academic qualifications from institutions in countries where English is the official medium of instruction.
Meanwhile, students who do not meet the requirements can enroll in the Intensive English Programme (IEP) to improve their English proficiency at the UTM Language Academy or the CIEP at any ELS Language Centre within one year from the date of registration. After completing and passing the course, students must take an exam aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with a minimum score of B2 to be eligible to pursue studies at UTM.
For international students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements, they may be considered for a conditional offer as follows:
- a) The international student enrolls in an English preparatory course as prescribed by UTM.
- b) The international student who enrolls in the English preparatory course prescribed by UTM must take an exam aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with a minimum score of B2.
