Current Semester

For semester 20202021-2,  Dr.Siti Norafida teaches;

  1. SKAB1713/SKAA1713/SEAA1713 Soil Mechanics
  2. MKAJ 1023 Advance Geotechnical Design and Analysis
  3. SKAB2012 Civil Engineering Laboratory I

SEAA 1713 Soil Mechanics

This course is one of the core courses, which provides solid background knowledge on the properties and behavior of soils for geotechnical engineering practice. Understanding the course will help the students in designing civil and geotechnical engineering structures. Topics for the course are soil basic properties, soil classification, ground improvement and soil compaction, water in soil, and shear strength.

In the previous semester, we manage to carry out an Online project task of E-zine (Soil Mechanics magazine) in the previous semester of 20202021-1; let’s have a look!

In addition, Dr. Siti Norafida also teach (as a sharing lecturer with Prof Dr. Ramli Nazir) in an alternate semester on;

SKAB5723/MKAJ 1023 Advanced Geotechnical Design and Analysis

This course, offered by the Department of Geotechnics and Transportation, will provide advanced knowledge on the analysis and design of geotechnical engineering structures such as the earth dam, earth retaining structures, embankment on soft soils, and tunneling through soils. It includes evaluating poor ground conditions and propose alternative techniques (s) for ground improvements such as the sand drain, vertical drains, geosynthetics, soil reinforcement, electro-osmosis, and others. A practical solution to problems which often confronted during construction in the difficult ground area will also be highlighted. The course explores examples of the construction and post-construction data for the purposes of performance, safety, and design compatibility. Slope and embankment stability; natural and manmade slopes, earth dams, and embankments on soft clay, will be layout in this course. Earth retaining structures for deep excavation, brace cut, gravity cantilever, buttress, and reinforced earth wall and cantilever and anchored sheet pile will also be included. Besides that, the analysis and design of tunneling work through the soil and the earth dam on various foundation soil types will be demonstrated. Lastly, the geotechnical instrumentation for monitoring the geotechnical engineering structures will be explored.

SKAB2012 and SKAB3012 are Civil Engineering Laboratory I and II

This course covers practical laboratory and field testing in civil engineering subjects.  CE laboratory  1 consists of 4 different laboratories to be completed; i. Geotechnics, ii. Structure, iii. Concrete and iv. Hydraulic & Hydrology.  CE laboratory II consists of a similar laboratory and with the addition of i. Transportation and ii. Environment laboratory testing.

She also teaches on:

SKAB 2722 Geotechnics 1 (sharing with Dr. Norzuraraihetty Mohd. Yunus)

This course is one of the core courses, which provides solid background knowledge on the properties and behavior of soils for geotechnical engineering practice. Understanding the course will help the students in designing civil and geotechnical engineering structures. Topics for the course are stresses in soils, compressibility and consolidation of soils, and slope stability. At the end of the course, students should be able to analyze and apply the related theories of soil behavior, and to solve problems of stresses on retaining structures, consolidation settlement, and slope stability.

MKAJ 1083  Environmental Geotechnics (as a sharing lecture with AP Dr. Kamaruddin Ahmad for an alternate semester)

MKAJ 1113 Tunnel Engineering (sharing with Ir. Dr. Rini Asnida and AP Mohd. For)

This course is the elective course offered for Master Engineering – Geotechnics students. This course deals with tunnel construction in all conditions; soil, rock, and mixed ground condition. The content is tailored to enable students to acquire knowledge on tunnel construction. The first part of the module aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge; to collect, evaluate and interpret site investigation data which is frequently complex because of the variability inherent in the ground. This includes the hydrological and stress condition. The second part is to instill an appreciation of the design process and design considerations, lining design, and effects on existing underground structures. The application of finite element software to determine the structural integrity of underground openings and their support systems. Finally, this module outlines the strategies for managing risk and health, and safety and identifies the key hazards in tunneling and underground works. This course will be delivered together with industry parties (from Tunnel and Underground Space Technical Division (TUSTD), IEM) and a team from MRT tunnel Malaysia.
