Dr. Ponselvi Jeevaragagam obtained her Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM Skudai in 1998. She had received Dean’s awards for achieved good result in the semesters. In her Honors thesis, the study dealt with effects of vibration in Civil Engineering structures and the means to measure and control the vibration. In 2002, she completed her Masters degree in Hydraul and Hydrology at Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM Skudai. The research presented fuzzy logic assessments for scour depth around bridge pier and abutment foundations by a river. With the help of this research, a bridge engineer could able to provide a rational recommendation, and a systematic scour protection or countermeasures to minimize the scouring at the bridge foundations. In 2010, she completed her Doctorate degree of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. In her PhD study, she had developed a decision making tool using an artificial neural network technique for forecast flood online at gauge and ungauged sites of a river basin area. This decision support tool would be able to address inherent uncertainties due to hydrological and meteorological data such as temperature, radiation, humidity, precipitation, rainfall-runoff etc.

Dr. Ponselvi started working at UTM Skudai as an Assistant Lecturer in 1998. Currently, she is a  Senior Lecturer in the Information Technology Unit of Civil Engineering (ITUCE), Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM Skudai. Dr. Ponselvi’s fields of interest are mainly in Dam/Reservoir Operations; Water Resources Management; Floodplain Mapping and Flood Control; Sediment Transport; Bridge Scour; and the application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Fuzzy Logic, Neuro-Fuzzy, Expert System, Genetic Algorithm, Geospatial Information System (GIS) and other tools in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering.
