Associate Professor Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed is a Professional Engineer and Life Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh. He is a Member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), USA and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He is an EIT from California. Dr. Ahmed has a rich blend of job experiences comprising of international organizations, consultancy services, research and teaching. He is currently working as an Associate Professor of Transportation (Civil Engineering) at the University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru and he teaches graduate students and conducts research on Transport Planning, Transport Safety and other relevant subjects. He was awarded the “Quality Award-2012” in September 2013 by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for being evaluated as one of the best lecturers  by the post-graduate students.

He supervises research activities of PhD and master degree level students. He just successfully completed two research projects financed through Research University (RU) grants (GUP and PAS grants) of Malaysia. 

Dr. Ahmed worked on various transport projects while working with the Transport Division of the United Nations ESCAP at Bangkok, Thailand and with the World Bank based in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a Transport Specialist of the World Bank South Asia Sustainable Development Department. Dr. Ahmed has experience working on an award winning elevated expressway project in Thailand. He also worked in Kansas, California and Florida of USA on transport projects. He has work experience in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United States of America (USA).

Dr. Ahmed possesses an excellent academic background and was awarded by the Chancellor (President) of Bangladesh for his outstanding performance in the secondary school level. He was awarded a Medal by South Gujarat University, India for his achievement in the Civil Engineering degree program. He obtained his PhD degree in 2003 from the University of Kansas (KU), USA. He obtained his master degree in Transportation Engineering with a Government of Japan Scholarship from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 1997 and his Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Distinction (Civil Engineering) in 1992 with a Government of India Scholarship from South Gujarat University (currently S.V. National Institute of Technology), Surat, India.

Dr Ahmed’s interests are in the fields of Transport Planning, Road Safety, Geometric Design of Roadways, Transport Policy and Transport Economics. Dr. Ahmed has visited twenty two (22) countries with keen interest in the fields of Transport and Infrastructure. Just recently, in March 2014, Dr. Ahmed presented a conference paper in an international conference in Batam, Indonesia in the field of Transportation Planning. In 2013, Dr. Ahmed was authors/co-authors of seven (07) international conference papers, five (05) indexed journal articles and  also two (02) articles in the Transport and Communications Bulletin for Asia and the Pacific, published by the Transport Division of the United Nations ESCAP, Bangkok.
