Welcome to Dr. Azmi’s on-line home.

Dr. Azmi obtained his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1987. In 1994, he completed his M.Eng. in Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York and obtained his PhD in 2004 from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) (now known as University of Manchester), UK.  He started his career at UTM in 1990 and is currently an Associate Professor acting as the Head, Department of Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Azmi has worked in different areas of Environmental Engineering and Management.  He has strong research interest in the field of water and wastewater treatment particularly in the removal of recalcitrant compounds. He is currently working on removal of color from textile effluent and palm oil mill effluent (POME) using Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) and biogranules degradation process. In addition, he has several on-going research work with SAJ Holdings Sdn. Bhd. dealing with improvement of water treatment work in Johor area. His work include the enhancement of operation practices of conventional water treatment plant in removing natural organic matter (NOM) and new emerging pollutants (NEPs).

At present, Dr. Azmi has about 70 scientific and technical publications in journals and proceedings. He was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Environmental and Water Resource Management (IPASA) at UTM. He is a member of Malaysian Water Association (MWA) and International Water Association (IWA) and an Associate of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).
