Arde SarkumAr. Sarly Adre Sarkum is an architecture futurist, sustainability proponent and design activist. Currently he helms the hybrid architectural design firm [SA]2 or Sarly Adre Sarkum Architecture Sdn Bhd which combines cutting edge architectural design solutions with extensive researched based explorative approach to solve challenging integrated design problems. He is currently the President of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation which is Malaysia’s Green Building Council under the auspices of the World Green Building Council. He is also currently a elected council member of Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (The Malaysian Institute of Architects). He currently sits as one of the five directors of the GBI Green Rating Tool.


Smart Sustainable Green Urban Design and City Planning – Future Infrastructure


SustainabilityAbstract – In the more rapid developing areas in the world, the rate of the growth and proliferation of dense new urban areas is astounding. This inevitable phenomenon gives rise to very serious pressure on the natural environment as well the living condition of the city dwellers. Yet, unlike the more slower organically growing cities of the west there is a distinct opportunity to create more effective and sustainable planning solutions when you design, envision and realise new townships and cities from scratch. This new mindset and future trend in urban design will inadvertently hinge on the development of new enabling technologies and innovation. The design and morphology of cities has always been inapplicably dictated by the key enabling technologies of their time, the future will be no less different. New emerging technologies will change the way we work, live and play in our cities. Ultimately it will determine how the city functions and the human condition therein. This talk will give an overview of sustainable current issues, thinking and solutions to green city design through case studies and examples from Malaysia and the world. It will also delve in the enabling technologies, future thinking and avant-garde innovations with regard to development of smart, sustainable and green cities.
